Led Classes Begin This Saturday with Laura Olson!

During led classes, students are guided in unison through the postures of the primary series of Ashtanga yoga, and provided with options for poses that may prove challenging. The focus is on the meditative flow of breath and movement (Vinyasa) as well as transitions, sequence of postures, and form. The pace is dynamic and steady. Led classes are suggested for all students in order to reinforce the proper practice of coordinating breath and movement and correct vinyasa. No experience in Ashtanga necessary!

Schedule of Classes beginning this Saturday of Labor Day Weekend:

Monday – Thursday 6:30 AM – 8 AM: Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga at Woodstock Yoga.

Laura will also be teaching an Ashtanga Fundamentals workshop on October 8th that will sweep you up in the energetic spirit of Ashtanga Yoga. In this 2-hour workshop Laura will introduce you to the history and tradition of Ashtanga Yoga. We’ll delve into tristhana–breath, dristi and asana; deconstruct sun salutations, and vinyasa — the grounding force of the practice –then explore the primary series, leaving time for questions and answers. This workshop is open to all! .

Please note that there will be no Ashtanga classes on new and full moon days. The next new moon will be observed on Friday, September 2nd. The next full moon will be on Friday, September 16th.

Dear friends,

अथ योगानुशासनम् atha yoga-anushasanam is the first of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. There is much to be said by scholars on the exact interpretation and meaning of this sutra but the gist of it is this: Now begins instruction in yoga.

There is no time like the present and it is the only time we ever have so let’s spend it wisely. Yoga helps us to connect to the present moment and realize our true nature. Our breath is a powerful yet subtle force that we explore deeply in the Ashtanga practice. The more you explore it the more interesting it becomes.

We are starting our first full week at Woodstock Yoga this Monday! Mysore classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 6:30 AM – 8 AM. Sunday Mysore classes will remain at our home studio for the time being.

There is a Chinese proverb that states, The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now. And so it is true for beginning a regular yoga practice. But especially right now, while we only have a handful of students, it is the perfect time to get started if you are new to Ashtanga as you will get plenty of one-on-one attention. Beginners welcome!

We’re Moving To Woodstock Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga Woodstock is moving to Woodstock Yoga

Barbara Boris has graciously offered to host our morning Mysore program at Woodstock Yoga on Deming Street right in the heart of town. We’re very excited for the bigger space, higher ceilings, and the opportunity to be a part of the larger yoga community here in Woodstock. Come join us there!

Mysore classes will be taking place there Monday – Thursday beginning this coming Tuesday, August 16th.

Schedule for the week of August 12th – 21st:

Laura and I are traveling to practice with the lovely Christine Hoar of Ashtanga Yoga Montauk this coming weekend so there will be no classes this Friday, August 12th through Monday, August 15th.

Tuesday and Wednesday 6:30 AM – 8 AM @ Woodstock Yoga, 6 Deming Street in the center of Woodstock. Doors open at 6 AM. Doors close at 8 AM sharp.

Thursday is a full moon. Take rest!

Friday 6:30 AM – 8 AM Mysore practice at our home studio – 15 Chipmunk Lane off of Zena Rd in Woodstock. $15 drop in rate.
