imageLaura Olson’s relationship with yoga began auspiciously in 2001 after losing a job and needing a reason to leave the house every morning. Her kinesthetic awareness didn’t begin there though… it was cultivated for decades as a dancer. Before she stepped into her first yoga studio Laura studied Dance at Sarah Lawrence College, attended the Mark Morris Summer Training program, and received a certificate from the London Contemporary School of Dance.

Laura immediately fell in love  with yoga but it took her a few classes to realize that she didn’t want to wear footed dance tights any longer… She began practicing daily and in Fall of 2002 she completed her first teacher training in yoga. As a part of her teacher training she practiced with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois on one of his New York tours. She began daily Mysore practice later that year.

In 2003 Laura began teaching Ashtanga Yoga around New York City. In 2007 she traveled to Mysore to practice at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute with Pattabhi Jois; his daughter, Saraswati Jois; and grandson, Sharath Rangaswamy. She has done intensives with many of the AYRI Certified and long time teachers who helped bring Ashtanga to America, including: Nancy Gilgoff, Tim Miller, Guy Donahaye, David Garrigues, and Eddie Stern.

imageKathy Reisfeld has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga since the fall of 2001 when she was introduced to the Ashtanga primary series.

In the summer of 2003 she had the privilege of studying with Nancy Gilgoff and Christine Hoar at a workshop in Burlington, Vermont, which opened her eyes to the true depths of Ashtanga Yoga.

While living in NYC she practiced at Ashtanga Yoga New York with Eddie Stern as her teacher from 2005 through 2010.   She had the good fortune of meeting and practicing with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in the fall of 2003 and again in 2005 and 2006.  She traveled to Mysore, India in 2005 in order to study at the Ashanga Yoga Research Institute with Sharath Rangaswamy.

In 2010, while pregnant with her daughter, Ruthie, Kathy moved up to Woodstock with her husband, Scott.

Kathy has been maintaining a home practice since her move up to Woodstock.   She is grateful for the love, support, and wisdom of her teacher, Christine Hoar.

Ashtanga Yoga Woodstock is located at the home studio of Kathy, Scott, and Ruthie Reisfeld.  It opened in 2014 in order to create a formal practice space for Ashtanga Yoga practitioners in the Woodstock and Hudson Valley area.
